🥼🧪Junior Infants celebrate Science Week🧑🏽‍🔬👩‍🔬

17th Nov 2024

Last week, Junior Infants had a blast celebrating Science Week! We began by discussing what science is and why it's so exciting, before diving into some hands-on experiments.🧪🔬

We were lucky enough to have our classmate Scientist Sophia visit us, where she showed us an amazing experiment illustrating how air can affect fire—everyone was amazed! Using a tea light candle and a glass, she explained how fire needs air (oxygen) to burn. When we placed the glass over the candle, the flame went out because the oxygen inside the glass was used up. Well done Sophia! Before the experiment, we talked about the dangers of fire and what we would do if there ever was a fire.

Throughout the week, we also conducted our own experiments, including the Skittles experiment where we observed how colours spread in water, the dancing raisins experiment where raisins seemed to "dance" in soda water, and a fun activity where we tested which objects sink or float in water.

We had so much fun predicting & experimenting. Who knows, some of us might even become scientists when we grow up🧑🏽‍🔬👩‍🔬🥽
